Abstract Artist: Derek Dohren
Some art exists to shock, dismay, or to express horror and the less edifying aspects of life. Other art is created to delight and to celebrate, to give a sense of the wonderment of the world around us. Artists may legitimately function at either end of these very human experiences. For me the choice is clear. I want my paintings to be uplifting, life affirming, joyful, and thought provoking. I accept I often fail in this but I also like to think I succeed on occasion.
Derek Dohren is based in Granada, in the Andalucian province of Spain. Born in Liverpool, England he began his artistic career late after an inspiring move to rural Scotland. He doesn’t confine his artistic output to abstractions and regularly paints portrait commissions. He also won the 2009 Artist of the Year award (landscape category) for Artists and Illustrators magazine, a UK based publication.
